Lily Gladstone becomes the first Native American to win an acting award
The odds-on favorite to win Best Actress is Lily Gladstone for Killers of the Flower Moon. And while she faces some stiff competition (more on that in a second), if she does win the award she’ll become the first Native American woman to win Best Actress in Academy Awards history.
But Gladstone’s award would be even more historic than that. Previously, only Chief Dan George was nominated for Little Big Man in 1970, and Graham Greene was nominated in 1990 for Dances With Wolves, both for Best Supporting Actor – and neither won.
So if Gladstone wins, she could become not just the first woman, but the first Native American ever to win an acting award at the Oscars.
